Motorcycle School - How to Pass a Driver's License Test

The successful completion of a motorcycle class can often eliminate the requirement to pass the driver's test. The course will teach you how to be aware of other drivers, maintain the distance between them, and safely ride to your levels of competence.

The course consists of classroom instruction and hands-on riding time. Make sure you arrive on time. Late arrivals could cause disruption to the course schedule.

Classroom Instruction

Whether you're brand new to riding or want to sharpen your skills and improve your skills, the MSF Basic Rider Course (BRC) is perfect for you. This course is a combination of classroom instruction and real instruction in the operation of a motorcycle or scooter in an off-street, controlled setting. The BRC is designed for novice riders and will help you avoid the MVC road test. It teaches street strategies including how to brake effectively, how to navigate in tight spaces, how you can change lanes, and pass without causing any hazards.

The five-hour ePackage I (eP1) can be completed either as a stand-alone application or as an introduction to BRC's hands on portion. The eCourse contains interactive lessons, video clips and graphics that let you learn the fundamentals of motorcycling. Insurance discounts may be available to you after successful completion of the course.

kurs motocyklowy a1  must be completed within 30 days from the start date of your BRC course in order to receive a certificate and participate in the riding skill evaluation. If the eCourse isn't completed, no refund will be provided. To participate in the hands-on BRC participants must possess an VALID driver's license.

The CLASS program, a two-day rider-training course, allows students to build their riding skills on a street-legal motorcycle or scooter provided by the school. The class is taught by MSF Certified Instructors. The focus is on building your confidence, skills and understanding of the motorcycle/scooter operating systems. The class includes instruction in the classroom along with riding exercises and a riding skill evaluation.

The class is based upon the lessons of Reg Pridmore, three-time AMA Superbike Champion and his carefully selected team of instructors. Their philosophy has been refined through 50 years of riding, racing and teaching. These concepts are presented in a straightforward manner to make them easy to understand and implement. The result is a more confident, capable and safer rider.

Practice Range

A good portion of your motorcycle school will be held on a practice area, where you can refine and test your riding abilities in a controlled setting. The range is usually closed to traffic, so you can practice safely. Your RiderCoach will guide you through the basic control and procedures of your vehicle prior to sending you out on the range. Your RiderCoach will test your abilities at the end of each session on the range. These exercises include limited-space maneuvers and braking. If you are able to complete the riding-skills test you will be awarded the BRC Road Test Waiver Completion Card (a license waiver).

It is essential to bring your motorcycle safety gear to class -- your RiderCoach will provide helmets for students who don't own them, but make sure to wear a helmet that is DOT-approved. Also, wear long pants that are non-flare material, full fingered gloves, over-the-ankle boots or shoes and eye protection.

When you take the motorcycle safety course it is likely that you will spend approximately five hours in the classroom absorbing the basics of your motorcycle and its operation before you go out for a ride around the track. Your instructor will guide you through the fundamentals of riding a motorcycle including shifting, turning and straight-line riding. Then, you'll move on to more advanced maneuvers such as emergency braking, swerving, and emergency brakes. The course will conclude with a final evaluation of your riding skills, after which you'll receive a completion certificate and potentially qualify for a discount on motorcycle insurance.

In many states, passing a motorcycle safety course is the only way for new riders to obtain their licenses. Contact your local DMV to determine whether the course is required or recommended, and ensure that you are enrolled in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation-approved program that can be used as a road test waiver by the DMV.

The MSF's Basic RiderCourse is designed for beginners and can be taken in a variety of locations across the United States. The course combines 5 hours of classroom training and 10 hours on bikes. It is the fastest method to get the motorcycle license and may also be eligible for an insurance discount.

Instructor Feedback

"The instructors were very professional and knowledgeable. They genuinely love their students, and it shows. They will teach you the fundamentals you should know about riding a motorcycle. I would strongly recommend this class to any rider at any age or experience."

The instruction in the classroom was thought-provoking and informative. The feedback from the instructor was the best part of the riding instruction. They didn't simply say "OK" but instead explained what you did wrong. For instance, "You looked down at the handlebars", "You gave it too many gas", "Your wrists are bent", "You shifted too early", or "You weren’t pushing down on your foot peg". Then they told you how to fix it.

This type of coaching is what you can expect in a quality training course and is what sets this class from many other classes. Some riders may consider this to be harsh however I believe it's essential to give students the best chance of passing the test and remaining safe on the bike.

I've taken courses previously and the instructor has never given me any feedback. If a student doesn't pose an immediate danger or impedes the progress of others within the group there's no reason instructors should be the sole decision-maker on whether or not a student has passed the course.

I believe that any moto school that does not offer personal coaching is missing an essential aspect of their curriculum and doesn't deserve the high marks they receive in student reviews. The most efficient way to learn quickly and safely is to take the Basic RiderCourse followed by private lessons. You can learn from an expert learn from a professional, avoid bad habits and start riding with confidence and the skills you will use for an entire lifetime. The students who complete the RiderCourse are exempt from the written and riding endorsement tests in most states. Certain insurance companies offer discounts to riders who have completed a course.

Final Exam

During the second half of the class, you'll learn road skills, like braking and acceleration shifting gears, turning and steering. This part of the course lasts until you pass the riding skill test. This part of the class will determine whether you will receive your motorcycle license waiver card. The test will cover the maneuvers that the DMV driver examiner will look for during your license test. The test isn't easy and if you don't pass, it's not the end of the world. Be prepared to take it again the next time and keep working hard.

If you pass the test, your instructor will issue you a certificate of completion which can be used to get an insurance reduction for motorcycles. You will also be a certified rider and can now legally operate your motorcycle on the streets.

The MSF 3-wheel BRC, a research-based and action-oriented curriculum, was designed to teach young 3-wheel motorcyclists (of all ages) the physical and mental skills they require to safely ride on streets. The 3-WBRC offers instruction in the classroom and two full days of "on 3WMC" training on motorcycles that are specifically designed for training purposes. The successful completion of this course qualifies for an NYS DMV waiver to operate only a 3-wheeled motorcycle.

Students must wear a helmet that is DOT approved and be at minimum 16 years old. If under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign the New York State Covid Release Form, Waiver and Indemnification prior to the beginning of the class. Eye protection and sturdy riding pants are highly recommended. Helmets are available to borrow, or you can bring your own.

To receive your motorcycle course completion certificate you must pass the 5-hour ePackage 1 online course. The eCourse needs to be completed within 30 days from the date you begin your riding course. The online eCourse must be completed using a computer or mobile device. There is no refund when you sign up without a valid driver's license.
